Surprise, Lora!!

Hi, all.

My family came to visit, and to surprise my sister on her birthday (15th). My sister invited me to her birthday party that her family was throwing for her in Chuck E Cheese, so I brought everyone else with me. My mom and dad, my brother Wayne, Niece Maria, and Maria's kids Emma and Aidan. Funny thing is that we were planning the surprise her for a year, since I decided to be a travel nurse. (and she didn't have a clue) So, I walked in first, and then the others streamed in one at a time. It was fun. She screamed 3 times. :-D Thank you, Phillip for instrumenting the surprise.

Of course, we also went sightseeing for the weekend they were there. My dad and Uncle Denny used to live there when they were kids, so they've been giving me ideas of where to tour, and my dad took us to his neighborhood, and showed us where he lived, where he played at, and where he went to school. And, of course, the tour is not completely without my dad getting lost...again. Love you, Dad. We made quite a few circles.

We also went to this place called City Museum, where you can be a kid, no matter how old you are. The pics I took says a lot, but I couldn't take too many, since I was moving, climbing, and sliding (and it was dark). It's a museum with different slides, climbing space (if you're not afraid of heights or claustrophobic) located inside an old 7 story building. It took up 4 floors of the building. I went climbing with my niece Lizzie, persuading and pushing each other up stairs, climbing spaces, and down slides. If you come to St Louis, you have to go to City Museum.

I also took my family to St Charles Main Street. We went as far as the Ice cream shoppe, located in the middle of Main, then decided the kids are tired and ready to go home. We didn't get a chance to go to the Arch or to Forest Park, but I'll take more pics, so they can continue to live vicariously through me once again, and see the pics on the blog ;-)

Yes, I'm still enjoying the travel nursing career. Eventually, I'll settle in one place for a while, but until then....

lots of love,
Leona

A "Link" to St Louis

(I'm so witty.) Hi, all.

I found a way to save gas, and still investigate all of downtown St Louis. It's called the Metrolink. Get it? Anyways.... The Metrolink is like San Diego's trolley, stopping at all the touristy areas, Convention Center, and stadiums. I took the Metrolink to the St Louis Arch, and I walked around the Riverfront.

The Mississippi River is a nice color of brown. Maybe tan. Old and new Riverboats still travel up and down the river, but more for tourists than for ferrying passengers. And, of course, I saw more history. Not far from the Arch is St Louis' old Courthouse that went through different renovations throughout the decades, until a completely new courthouse was built a few blocks down. Now it's a history museum.

I'm gonna enjoy using this Metrolink.

1st week in St Charles

Hello, everyone.

Yes, I am alive and well. After downloading my Austin pics, I noticed how much I've done in Austin, but haven't shared it all. Sorry. Hopefully that will change while I'm here in St Louis/St Charles. Of course, I'm not starting well, huh. I didn't start well in my first week, though. I got sick on my first week here. (I know, poor excuse.) I found out the hard way that St Louis is a city filled with allergies. The hospital I'm at is close to the Missouri river (one of 3 rivers in St Louis), and whatever I'm allergic to is around the river. On my second day at the hospital, I starting feeling sick and aching all over. By the end of the day, I didn't want to move. I went home, took Tylenol and Clairitin D, and went to bed. After having a temp of 101 for a day and a half, I went to see a doctor, and he said that I had both allergies and a sinus infections that's been going around in St Charles. (Welcome to St Louis.) I have to take Clairitin D every day I go to work, or when I'm near Mississippi or Missouri river. So, if you decide to visit St Louis, bring Claritin if you have allergies.

Other than that, I did get a chance to see St Charles before I got sick. (I did take pictures this time). St Charles is filled with history. Did you know that St Charles was the first capitol of Missouri, before the capitol was moved to Jefferson City? The Main Street is the first street made in St Charles. Cobble stones and buildings from that era are still standing. It's like walking back in time. I also went to a couple parks here in St Charles. Beautiful and green. However, the rivers are muddy as ever. Missouri and Mississppi Rivers are brown. Not wise to go Kayaking on, especially after the rain storms. I spoke with a river guide that was loading his boat on his trailer, and he said that the Missouri river is over flowing. 8ft above the normal level. There are stone dikes that are covered with water that if you don't know the river well enough to navigate through, you can easily damage your boat. (trivial information in case someone asks)

But, that's pretty much what I did my first week here. I promise, I will keep you updated on my sightseeing, so you can live vicariously through me. :-D

Love ya guys.
